17 Apr Happy Easter from Sister Laura
We meet to exchange “Happy Easter” greetings.
It is natural to think of the celebration, the Easter Monday picnic, the stuffed and tasty colomba.
We remember less that that celebration was preceded by a triduum of pain, betrayal, violence, mourning, death on the cross of someone who, to save us, faced that tragic and shameful end.
The binomial “death/life” is exactly what this anniversary wants to remind us. In Ethiopia we are emerging from years of war and too many deaths. In many villages, the “day of tears” is still celebrated every time the definitive disappearance of young people who went to fight and were still missing is confirmed.
But life resumes, little by little. We try to return to a normality that seemed impossible to regain. Children go back to play, to go to school. We are reborn, we rise again. With great difficulty and a heart that still cries, we return to hope for a possible future that, alone, would remain a utopia. Instead, it becomes reality thanks to you, faithful friends of the Adwa mission.
Despite the long silences imposed by the emergency, you have not abandoned us. The hospital has treated hundreds of thousands of wounded. We have fed thousands of people with the offerings that, despite everything, the Association has managed to send us.
For this reason we can say Happy Easter, because thanks to you our people are rising to life. In Adwa there will be no stuffed doves or picnics out of town… but children’s laughter, football matches, daily bread assured for many people, medicines for those who are sick.
For all this to each of you HAPPY HOLY EASTER OF RESURRECTION!
